George R.R. Martin's epic written saga "A Song of Ice and Fire" was adapted into HBO's hit television series "Game of Thrones." Though many hail the series' producers for successfully bringing the books to life, others have their own artistic interpretations of what the characters and locations may have looked like.

We scoured online artist havens like DeviantArt and Instagram for the best sampling of "Game of Thrones" fan art. Scroll down to see the variations of inspired works.

Perhaps the best-known fan artist is Robert Ball. He was commissioned by HBO to draw a graphic representing one death from each episode. Here's his take on the season six finale:

Others take a less abstract approach. Aaron Griffin is a UK based digital artist who specializes in realism. This mind-blowing recreation of Sansa Stark looks exactly like a photograph.

Aljona Koshkar is a colored-pencil artist who uploads her creations to Instagram. This drawing of Melisandre is impressive.

Speaking of Melisandre, this imagined "Game of Thrones" poster by Jack Upeshot is haunting now that we know Shireen and Stannis' fate.

Fans seem especially fond of recreating Robb Stark's death at the Red Wedding. Polish artist Ajgiel made this grisly depiction showing a direwolf's head on Robb's arrow-ridden body.

Kay Huang named this dark piece "The Young Wolf." The sight of Robb dead on the Iron Throne is both epic and tragic.

The Iron Throne is one thing George R.R. Martin thinks the show got wrong. Marc Simonetti drew the version Martin said was closest to his intentions.

Simonetti also drew another scene from the fifth book (and fifth season). This was when Daenerys tamed Drogon in the fighting pits before flying away on his back.

Lady Stoneheart is the revenge-driven zombie form of Catelyn Stark from the books. So far she has yet to be seen on the show, but Kay Huang drew up a possible depiction of her.

We love this minimalist take on everyone's favorite comedy-duo: Arya and the Hound. Artist Jerry Liu captured their two contrasting swords perfectly.
